We are looking for high school teachers and lecturers for the European research project AC LAB

How can we teach students today to understand films and audiovisual media? How can we guide them from passive viewing toward a conscious and critical engagement with audiovisual culture? Which methods of film education are effective and practical in the classroom?

The international Audiovisual Connect LAB project, led by the KRUTÓN association and running from January 2026 to December 2027, seeks to answer precisely these questions. The project links research, film education, and audience engagement across Europe, bringing together educators, film professionals, and researchers in eight European countries. It includes a broader research initiative that, for the first time ever, seeks to systematically examine and define film literacy among high school students in a European context.

We are looking for high school teachers and lecturers of various subjects (ranging from art, literature, and languages to history and the natural sciences) who work with young people aged 15–19, and would like to participate in four meetings at Kino Kavalírka over the course of two years to explore together how to incorporate film into their teaching–whether they already have experience with film education and wish to further their professional development in this area, or are just looking for ways to start using film in the classroom.

Why should you get involved?

Film and audiovisual media are among the most important languages of everyday life. Students encounter them every day, yet schools often lack the tools to work with them systematically.

This project is an opportunity to collectively explore new approaches to film education and become part of a community of teachers who want to teach students to view film differently, understand the language of audiovisual media, and thereby increase their resilience against media and audiovisual manipulation.

What can participants expect?

You will become part of a small group of teachers who will participate in a series of four mandatory, topic-focused meetings–Learning Innovation Circles (LIC)–in the cozy setting of Kino Kavalírka.

THE FIRST TWO MEETINGS WILL TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY, MAY 11, 2026, AND MONDAY, JUNE 8, 2026, FROM 4:00 PM TO 10:00 PM. THE REMAINING TWO MEETINGS WILL TAKE PLACE BETWEEN MARCH AND JUNE 2027.

During the session, you will:

  • discover short European films and use them as teaching materials;
  • experience film-based educational activities designed to be easily adapted for use in the classroom;
  • analyze them from a pedagogical perspective;
  • adapt them so they can be used in your lessons and in the subjects you teach;
  • share experiences with other educators who have similar interests;
  • complete a short questionnaire on film literacy and viewing habits;
  • participate in two semi-structured interviews with researchers at the beginning and end of the project.

Between sessions, you will have the opportunity to try out the activities with your students and share your experiences during our group discussion.

The sessions will be practical, interactive, and focused on sharing experiences, experimenting, and working together to find ways to work with film and incorporate film education into the classroom. Each session will last 6–8 hours

What will participation give you?

  • Inspiration and specific methods for incorporating film into your teaching, tailored to the subjects you teach;
  • networking and the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues who want to actively use film in schools or are already doing so;
  • chance to participate in an international project taking place in 8 European countries;
  • certificate of completion for the program as part of an EU-supported project;
  • free movie tickets and other benefits.

PARTICIPATION IN THE PROJECT IS FREE; THE ONLY REQUIREMENT IS ATTENDANCE AT ALL 4 MEETINGS FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the research coordinator, Adéla Lachoutová, at edukace@krutonfilm.cz.

YOU CAN REGISTER HERE. Registration is binding. Your registration for the project will be confirmed in writing. The registration deadline is April 17, 2026.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!
